The tie hole is created by simply crossing the two ends of the tie. I came up with the term “Tie Hole” to help me remember how to tie a tie. So, all I need to do is create the “tie hole”, follow the pattern for the tie I want (such as Out, Behind, In, Across, Out), and then finish it up!
To create the tie hole you simply cross the two ends of the tie. But first you must have the tie around your neck.
1. Place the tie around your neck, with the seam side down.
2. Adjust the tie so that the skinny end is just above your waist.
3. Cross the fat end over the skinny end forming an “X”.
4. Grab where the ends cross (the center of the “X”), and hold it in one of your hands.
You have created a space between your hand and your neck. This area is what I call the tie hole.
Creating the tie hole is the most important step because it is at this stage that the length of the tie is chosen. After you cross the ends the length of the tie is almost completely decided. It is true that you can do some minor adjustments at the end, but you can only really squeeze an inch or two.
